Creative Department

Tricia Walterhouse, VP Creative

Tricia's extensive background in department management, corporate communications and editorial design has given her the knowledge and drive to lead and develop the Creative Department at SNAP Newspaper Group. Her duties include managing day-to-day operations, hiring and training new employees, overseeing newspaper production and directing the creative team. Her determination, skill and passion for design have been influential in maintaining the creative vision at SNAP.

Neil Thorne, VP Brand Development

Neil's diverse experience in marketing and graphic design management as an art and creative director, and business experience as an entrepreneur, provides him with the knowledge and experience to lead the creative team as SNAP continues to grow and evolve. He is responsible for maintaining and building upon SNAP's established brand as it relates to internal and external initiatives, including all SNAP newspaper franchises, and is jointly responsible for directing the creative team in the best interests of the brand.

Ashley Ainslie, Creative Team Leader

Ashley's experience with newspaper media and vast knowledge of modern technology have helped shape her position at SNAP. Her responsibilities include sustaining and encouraging the growth and assembly of four newspapers, training new employees, coordinating day-to-day direction within a small portion of the overall creative team, and managing and producing external creative jobs. SNAP's diverse team is ever evolving, and Ashley is very pleased to be a part of it.

Erin Enns, Creative Team Leader

Erin's education and background in graphic design led her to become a member of the SNAP Newspaper Group design team. She is responsible for the production of multiple newspapers each month as well as overseeing the workflow of a small team of creative designers and their respective newspapers. Her duties include training new employees, the creation of advertisements, layout design, managing her team and completing a variety of design projects for SNAP Newspaper Group.

Joshawa Jones, Creative Team Leader

Josh's broad background in business and management compliments his experience in graphic and interactive design – giving him the knowledge and skill sets necessary to be an effective and enthusiastic SNAP Creative Team Leader. He is responsible for overseeing a team of designers and all of the creative work that they produce, as well as assisting in the development and implementation of strategies for managing the production and growth of the Creative Department as a whole. Josh is a team player with character and has a strong work ethic.

Joel Maxwell, Creative Team Leader

Joel's experience in graphic and promotional design brings skill and swiftness to the creative department. A graduate of Georgian College's graphic design program, Joel has also headed and helped streamline the creative division for a promotional embroidery digitizing company. His experience has also reached into the fields of video production and embroidery digitizing, making him a well-rounded and adaptable asset to SNAP.

Katrina De Faveri, Creative Designer

Taking her love of art, design and computers, Katrina studied Graphic Design at Durham College which integrated all of her interests. Her previous experience designing print ads, billboards, business cards and retail signage helped hone her eye and expand her skills creatively. With advertorial and editorial design being her strengths in school, she came across SNAP Newspaper Group which stood out to her as an opportunity to work in both of her fortes. Starting with the paper in February 2009, it was love at first 'SNAP'! Katrina has become vitally entangled into SNAP and can honestly count herself as one of the lucky people that truly loves how they make a living!

Geoff Dossey, Creative Designer

Through studying design and advertising at the college level and working professionally as a freelance designer, Geoff has a comprehensive knowledge of the field. He is responsible for managing three SNAP newspapers, in which his duties include daily communication with franchisees, building advertisements for clients and general paper layout. Geoff is proud of the work he has done, and loves the time he has had at SNAP. He works hard to make those around him enjoy the time they spend at the office.

Barry HoSing, Creative Designer

Barry's classroom experience combined with four years of comprehensive knowledge in the field makes him a great asset to the design team. Using typography, visual arts, page layout and problem solving techniques to produce a final product, Barry strives for the best in client satisfaction. With a high work ethic and a hunger to further his design knowledge Barry is always pushing for perfection. Barry is always looking to tackle new initiatives as well as helping build towards a brighter future.

Lija Karklins, Creative Designer

Lija comes from a family of graphic designers and discovered her interest in art and design at an early age. She studied Graphic Design for four years at York University and Sheridan College, where she developed a love for editorial design. She graduated with honours in April 2011, and joined the SNAP team shortly after in October. Since graduating she is excited to be working as part of a team where she can continue to learn and grow in a creative environment.

Natalie Mantej, Creative Designer

Natalie came to SNAP with both agency and freelance experience after completing a stringent college program in design where she graduated on the honours list. At SNAP, she works together with her franchisees to manage the ad design, layout and deadlines of three newspapers each month. Integrity, passion and perseverance drive Natalie to produce top notch design work no matter what the timeline is. Natalie loves working together with the SNAP team of designers, determined to make even the smallest project a success.

Jeff Mitchell, Creative Designer

A graduate of the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson University, Jeff has a firm understanding of virtually all aspects of media and collateral production. He is a skilled illustrator and graphic designer with extensive experience in B2B and B2C sales and marketing. An avid reader and writer, Jeff had his first piece of short fiction published in 2010 and is currently writing and illustrating his first graphic novel.

Lorena Principe, Creative Designer

With fluency in Italian and English, an international fine art background and an honours graduate of Seneca College for graphic design, Lorena is one of the newest additions to SNAP! Her previous experience include in-studio and freelance graphic design, and she continues to be a commissioned painter with her art displayed in various art galleries and shows in both Toronto and Italy. Lorena enjoys working at such an entertaining and involved company and is proud to be a member of the SNAP family.

Vince Scarfone, Creative Designer

Vince graduated from the Visual Creative Arts Graphic Design program from Cambrian College in 2005, where he also acted as both vice president and president of Vision, the Student's Graphic Design Association. Vince is a visual problem solver and has been putting his expertise and talent into practice for over three years. With prior experience as a prepress designer, he is responsible for the layout and design of three papers at SNAP. Vince's passion for his trade and focus on continuing to enhance his skills are the driving force behind his goal of delivering first class service and design to his franchisees.

Giuliano Rosati, Creative Designer

Giuliano is a recent graduate of Seneca College's Graphic Design program. Giuliano has been exposed to various styles of design such as branding, print and publication, corporate work, eBlasts, banners, magazine advertisements and much, much more. He has worked in and out of studios on a contract basis as well as manages his own repertoire of freelance clients for over a year now, and currently designs i.Business magazine.

Domenic Staffiere, Creative Designer

A creative designer/illustrator with proven talents in designing logos, graphics and illustrations for text books, newsletters, brochures and magazines, coupled with an understanding of composition. Dom has excellent project management skills and the ability to establish rapport with individuals at all levels. His is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art majoring in Advertising/ Illustration as well as a graduate of The Art Institute of Toronto in which he was on the Dean's Honor Roll and The President's Honor Roll.

Melanie Tetro, Creative Designer

Melanie graduated from Humber Lakeshore's Advertising and Graphic Design program in May 2010. Her love for design and media was discovered early on when she took a few courses in high school such as communication technologies and media arts, and was introduced to programs that would enable her to channel her artistic visions into applicable resources. Melanie learned that these acquired skills would serve a greater purpose to future clients prompting her career path. She joined the SNAP team in October 2010 as a Production Assistant, which helped evolve her design skills in accuracy and technique. Melanie was then promoted to Creative Designer in April 2011 where she enjoys and strives to complete the new challenges she faces ahead.

Kirk Trew, Creative Designer

Kirk has over a decade of professional experience in print, web and information design. His most recent accolade being the SNAP Spirit Award for 2009. Prior to bringing his talents to SNAP, Kirk has created award-winning interactive media for Indian Affairs Canada, and was a logo design specialist for Titleist. Kirk has mostly specialized in identity and marketing campaign development and is continually inspired in his profession.

Kristen Vos, Creative Designer

With a love of creating beautiful things, Kristen always knew she wanted to have a career in art and design. Kristen earned a three-year diploma from Seneca College and then when on to complete a one-year Graphic Design diploma from the Art Institute of Toronto – where she graduated on the Dean's List at the top of her class. Kristen came to SNAP in 2007 and since then has found a team that she is proud to call not only her collegues but also a family. Kristen is responsible for designing three papers and looks forward to the end of the month when the end result of hard work pays off in the form of a great looking product that the community will embrace.

Shannon Guitard, Creative Designer

Combining her love for art and editorial design, Shannon studied Graphic Design for three years at Seneca college and recently graduated on the Presidents' List. Before becoming a permanent addition to the team as a Production Assistant, Shannon interned at SNAP while finishing her final semester of college. After completing school, she is proud and excited to start a new chapter in her life, to further her design knowledge and be a part of the SNAP family!

Marc Wellington, Creative Designer

After graduating from a three year Graphic Design program at Seneca College in 2007, Marc leapt forward into the work force. His previous experience was directly related to the design and production aspects of the print industry. Marc is responsible for the layout of events and colour correction for all franchises. His strong work ethic and passion for design makes him a great addition to the SNAP team.

Tyler Loube, Production Coordinator

Tyler has been immersed in the design and production aspects of the newspaper industry for the past six years, three of which he has been happily employed with SNAP. As a process builder and workflow guru, Tyler manages an ever-expanding team which handles the layout of events and colour correction of all of the franchises. Tyler also heads our cooperative learning program, where students (high school and post secondary) gain work experience at SNAP in the Creative Department with hands-on training of how our papers are created each month.

Michael Harris, Production Assistant

As a young creative professional, Michael has found his perfect start at SNAP. Studying at the Ontario College of Art & Design and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a minor in Communication Design. As part of the production team his duties include colour correction, photo editing, event and ad layout and working with the Creative Department. SNAP’s collaborative work atmosphere and experienced creative team is something Michael is pleased to be a part of.

Lindsey Chang, Production Assistant

Lindsey has always had a keen sense of aesthetics and natural creative sensibility. After many years of working in the fashion retail industry in various roles, she chose the Fashion Communication program at Ryerson University to pursue her post secondary education. It was there that she was introduced to graphic and web design, and her love for editorial design and graphic illustration as well as interest in print media grew. Lindsey graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Design in Communication. Before becoming a part of the SNAP family, Lindsey explored her new found interests and skills by starting her own stationery line and doing freelance work.

Gemma Kidd, Custodian

Gemma has worked with SNAP Newspapers for over a year, helping to keep our head office clean, tidy, and bring a friendly energy whenever she is here. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic High School, where she graduated on Honour Roll and was held in high regard as a friend by all her peers. She enjoys the work atmosphere, and has made great friends since her time began at SNAP.
